After the helping hands of the United State People are offered to the Somali families that immigrated from refugee camps and from other countries of the world the majority of them were and are settled in. Minnesota, mainly its twin cities became the magnet for Somali families and individuals as well. Thanks to the generosity of Minnesota, tens of thousands of Somali Americans are now living in it and thousands of their children/youth go Minnesota Schools, Colleges, and Universities. Somali Americans are very grateful for the American People, because without their help there could have not been possible for them to have the life they have now.

Need to mention that through the actual life experience, Somali American families have felt that their children are educationally lagging behind their peers from the main culture. and the main causes of the problem include:

1. Limited educational background and less formal education due to the civil war of their country of origin.
2. Lack of English Language Proficiency,
3. Sink or swim educational system offered by the public schools
4. Negative cultural influence of the inner city neighborhoods that have higher concentration of low-income families.

In addition, the majority of Somali parents rarely speak English language and due to that they have hard time to communicate with the schools of their children, to help their children, and to understand the main culture.
